During questions to the Minister for Local Government Lesley Griffiths AM, and in my capacity of the Shadow Minister for Local Government, I responded on a WAQ about authorities failing in their duties. We have recently witnessed payments to Senior Executives elsewhere, where concerns of transparency has been of some concern and indeed the payments now deemed as unlawful.
As regards the current issues in the Welsh NHS. I questioned the Minister for Finance on what measures she would be taking to deal with the financial difficulties facing our health boards with many of them now running in deficit. Such serious concerns are coming forward on a regular basis and it is fair to say that my staff team and I are dealing with an ever increasing number of casework matters, to include often rearranged appointments at short notice, infection control concerns, longer ambulance waiting times, consultancy appointment delays and cancelled operations
As we approach the forthcoming budget, it is imperative that the previous funding cuts by the Welsh Government will be addressed and our health service is adequately funded to meet the commitment of the proposed reorganisational challenges. I continue to press for the service enhancements needed at Llandudno District General Hospital that have been previously costed and agreed. This will see the implementation of a Women's Centre of Excellence and a refurbished Minor Injuries Unit. Any deviation from these plans would be an absolute betrayal to the residents here in Aberconwy.
Last week saw the passage of the Mobile Homes (Wales) Bill, which will now be sent for Royal Assent by Her Majesty the Queen. The Bill will establish a licensing regime for mobile home sites in Wales and make provision in relation to the management of these sites. I have worked on this since my time on the CELG committee in the Assembly.
During plenary this week we will be discussing the Active Travel (Wales) Bill that seeks to increase the number of people taking active journeys (walking or cycling) Debates on excellence in education, integration of health and social care and broadband provision across Wales.
