Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy has called on the Cabinet to explain the pool fiasco to council tax payers, and visitors.
In April, the Local Authority made a statement saying “We recently carried out a full safety audit of all our sites, which found some areas to be high slip risk.
In response to the safety survey results, we plan to carry out some work to apply a specialist anti-slip coating to the surfaces, but unfortunately the only UK provider and installer is now unable to carry out the work due to sudden ill health.
We are urgently trying to find an alternative solution or training for another contractor to carry out this essential health and safety work.”
In May, after pressure from the MS, as well as members of the public, it was reported that Conwy County Borough Council (C.C.B.C) had secured a contractor to carry out the necessary work across the county, but gave no indication when the works would finish, or the pools would re-open.
However, with the summer holidays almost over, works on the pools have still not finished, with reports pointing at next year!
Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy has said:
“Here we are, three months since a contractor was found, but we are still no closer to the pools being reopened.
“Locals and visitors have been left disappointed, and this year’s season has slipped away with children almost back in school.
“The Cabinet has once again shown that they are incapable of supporting our local tourism industry. These pools are vital to many businesses, with many directly benefitting from the visitors that they bring into the area.
“I was down at the pool in Craig-y-Don this morning where Coast Café & Gifts setup earlier this year. I am sure the owner was hoping for a busy summer season, with lots of people buying ice creams, cold drinks and lilos whilst relaxing by the pool. I don’t think it has quiet worked out like that with the closure.
“I urge the Cabinet to explain this fiasco to all council tax payers, and visitors to the area. Indeed, it shouldn’t have taken C.C.B.C until April to realise that the pools were a hazard. This should have been picked up through the winter with all vital work completed before the summer period.
ENDS
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy wedi galw ar y Cabinet i esbonio ffwdan y pwll i’r sawl sy’n talu’r dreth gyngor, ac i ymwelwyr.
Ym mis Ebrill, cafwyd datganiad gan yr Awdurdod Lleol - "Yn ddiweddar cynhaliwyd archwiliad diogelwch llawn o'n holl safleoedd, a gwelwyd bod risg uchel o lithro mewn rhai mannau.
Er mwyn ymateb i ganlyniadau'r arolwg diogelwch, rydyn ni’n bwriadu gwneud rhywfaint o waith gan osod deunydd gwrthlithro arbenigol ar yr arwynebau, ond yn anffodus ni all yr unig ddarparwr a gosodwr yn y DU bellach wneud y gwaith oherwydd salwch sydyn.
Rydyn ni’n ceisio dod o hyd ar frys i ateb arall neu hyfforddiant i gontractwr arall allu cyflawni'r gwaith iechyd a diogelwch hanfodol hwn."
Ym mis Mai, ar ôl pwysau gan yr AS, yn ogystal ag aelodau o'r cyhoedd, adroddwyd bod Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy wedi dod o hyd i gontractwr i wneud y gwaith angenrheidiol ledled y sir, ond ni roddodd unrhyw arwydd pryd y byddai'r gwaith yn gorffen, na phryd y byddai'r pyllau yn ailagor.
Fodd bynnag, gyda gwyliau'r haf bron ar ben, mae’r gwaith ar y pyllau heb ei orffen o hyd, gydag adroddiadau'n awgrymu’r flwyddyn nesaf!
Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy:
"Dyma ni, dri mis ers cael gafael ar gontractwr, ond dydyn ni ddim agosach o hyd at ailagor y pyllau.
"Mae’r trigolion lleol a’r ymwelwyr wedi eu siomi, a'r tymor am eleni wedi diflannu a’r plant bron yn ôl yn yr ysgol.
"Mae'r Cabinet unwaith eto wedi dangos nad ydyn nhw'n gallu cefnogi ein diwydiant twristiaeth lleol. Mae'r pyllau hyn yn hanfodol i lawer o fusnesau, gyda llawer ohonyn nhw’n elwa'n uniongyrchol ar yr ymwelwyr a ddaw i'r ardal i’w defnyddio.
"Roeddwn i yn ymyl pwll Craig-y-Don y bore ’ma, lle’r oedd caffi a’r siop anrhegion wedi agor yn gynharach eleni. Rwy'n siŵr bod y perchennog wedi gobeithio am dymor prysur dros yr haf, gyda llawer o bobl yn prynu hufen iâ, diodydd oer a lilos i ymlacio wrth y pwll. Go brin y bydd hyn yn digwydd gyda’r pwll ar gau.
"Rwy'n annog y Cabinet i esbonio’r trafferthion i bawb sy’n talu’r dreth gyngor, ac i bawb sy’n ymweld â'r ardal, ac i egluro pam ein bod ni yn y sefyllfa hon. Rhaid dweud na ddylai fod wedi cymryd tan fis Ebrill i Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy sylweddoli bod y pyllau yn beryg. Dylai hyn fod wedi cael ei nodi yn ystod y gaeaf a chwblhau’r holl waith hanfodol cyn yr haf.
