Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has written an urgent letter to Councillor Charlie McCoubrey, Leader of the Council, Conwy County Borough Council, in relation to the impact of the Llandudno Junction flyover refurbishment on traffic.
The work started on 17 April 2023 and should finish by 20 July 2023. It is required so to help keep the bridge safe and open for years to come.
The Member for Aberconwy has highlighted that constituents are reporting over 50% increases in the time it takes to drive into Llandudno in the mornings, with vehicles queuing on the A470 all the way from the middle of Glan Conwy to near Bodysgallen Hall.
Commenting after issuing the urgent letter, Janet said:
“The Local Authority has rightly acknowledged that the necessary project would cause major disruption and inconvenience, but I do not think that they are doing everything possible to ease the pressure caused.
“For example, it is not reasonable to expect residents and visitors to be stuck in major congestion all the way between Glan Conwy and Llandudno every morning until the end of the scheme on 20 July 2023.
“Given the need to reduce the detrimental impact of the project on the A470, I have suggested that Conwy County Borough Council liaise with the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent so to establish what steps can be taken to improve the flow of vehicles travelling northbound into Llandudno. For example, I wonder if traffic from the East currently using A55 junction 19 so to approach Llandudno from Black Cat, could be encouraged to come off at junctions 20 or 22.”
