On hearing the news that a special meeting of Conwy County Borough Council has been arranged for 26 February 2018, Janet Finch-Saunders AM said:
“I remain completely opposed to the prospect of implementing a four-weekly collection, which would be the first for any local authority in Wales.
“Whilst I appreciate the budget constraints as a result of a very poor settlement from the Welsh Labour Government, cutting essential services such as this endangers both public and environmental health – the fallout of which could end up costing considerably more in the long term.
“I would once again urge the Cabinet to listen to elected Councillors and, more importantly, the many thousands of residents and objectors who have recently signed a petition against this move.
“I also would suggest that further options are reviewed in terms of streamlining overly-bureaucratic management and administration procedures, whilst looking at innovative ways to increase the Council’s funding streams and income.
“With ever increasing exorbitant council tax increases on an annual basis, it is little wonder that our hardworking families and pensioners feel that they are simply paying more and receiving less.”

Notes:
It is understood that the Special Council has been requested to discuss the proposed changes to bin collections, the impact this will have on the budget and the residents of the County Borough. The meeting will allow all democratically elected Councillors to have their say on this matter.
