Having long campaigned for works to be undertaken to reopen the historic Sappers Bridge crossing in Betws y Coed, Janet Finch-Saunders MS is now encouraging residents to take part in the Conwy County Borough Council consultation event.
The drop in session is taking place between 1pm and 6:30pm on Friday 17 November 2023, at St. Mary’s Church Hall, Betws Y Coed, LL24 0AG.
The bridge, which links both sides of the community, was closed suddenly in December 2021, and has remained shut ever since.
The closure is having a detrimental impact on residents and local businesses. Hotels are losing bookings and are facing having to close permanently due to the collapse in the number of customers.
Commenting on the future of the bridge, Janet said:
“Conwy County now has options for a solution to this terrible problem, and would like to get the community's input.
“It is essential that residents take this opportunity to have a say.
“Like many, I am very disappointed at the lack of urgency with which the Local Authority has progressed this project. In fact, this drop-in event is months behind schedule!
“Businesses and residents have been negatively affected, to the point that the community meeting I held in June made clear that a short term temporary solution is required.
“I urge residents to attend the meeting on 17 November”.

Ar ôl ymgyrchu ers amser maith dros gael gwaith wedi’i wneud i ailagor croesfan hanesyddol Pont y Soldiwr ym Metws-y-coed, mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS yn annog trigolion yn awr i gymryd rhan yn nigwyddiad ymgynghori Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy.
Cynhelir y sesiwn galw heibio rhwng 1pm a 6:30pm ddydd Gwener 17 Tachwedd 2023, yn Neuadd Eglwys y Santes Fair, Betws-y-coed, LL24 0AG.
Cafodd y bont, sy'n cysylltu dwy ochr y gymuned, ei chau yn sydyn ym mis Rhagfyr 2021, ac mae hi wedi bod ar gau byth ers hynny.
Mae cau’r bont yn cael effaith niweidiol ar drigolion a busnesau lleol. Mae gwestai yn colli archebion ac yn wynebu gorfod cau'n barhaol oherwydd y gostyngiad yn nifer y cwsmeriaid.
Wrth sôn am ddyfodol y bont, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae gan Sir Conwy opsiynau yn awr i ddatrys y broblem ofnadwy hon, a hoffwn gael barn y gymuned.
“Mae'n hanfodol bod trigolion yn manteisio ar y cyfle hwn i ddweud eu dweud.
“Fel llawer, rwy'n siomedig iawn ynghylch diffyg brys yr Awdurdod Lleol wrth ddatblygu'r prosiect hwn. Yn wir, mae'r digwyddiad galw heibio hwn fisoedd ar ei hôl hi!
“Mae busnesau a thrigolion wedi cael eu heffeithio'n negyddol, a dangosodd y cyfarfod cymunedol a gynhaliais ym mis Mehefin yn glir bod angen ateb dros dro yn y tymor byr.
“Rwy'n annog trigolion i fynychu'r cyfarfod ar 17 Tachwedd”.
