Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy has spoken out in the Welsh Parliament about the axing of the Arriva Bus service to Penrhynside.
A petition is underway calling for public transport to be restored.
Speaking yesterday Janet outlined that the inevitable reaction to the 20mph speed limit was upon us and that hundreds of residents were now being left completely isolated.
Janet said:
“It is completely unreasonable to expect parents with prams, wheelchair users, the elderly, and individuals on their own to take such an unsuitable route to reach the nearest bus stop.
“20mph is not a justifiable reason for cutting off the community either, especially when bearing in mind that should the 14 and 15 buses return to Bryn-y-Bia Road, their route would be around 15 meters shorter!
“I have written to the Chief Executive of Arriva asking for him to reconsider the cutting of the service especially when we have had such an uproar from the local community. Hopefully together we can keep applying pressure to get the service back up and running.”
