From Friday 1st September, Conwy Telecare, which supports older or disabled people through technology in their home is set to almost double in price.
The majority of customers were notified by letter in August, less than a month before the outlined price hike. The annual bill for the Telecare Rental and Monitoring will increase by 70%, from £182.00 to £310.25.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has commented saying:
“ I am absolutely shocked to hear that Conwy County Borough Council (C.C.B.C) are increasing the annual bill for Telecare by 70%.
“This is well above the current inflation rate. So, I see no justification whatsoever for the current Welsh Labour/ Plaid / Ind led Cabinet for such a scandalous increase fort what can be a lifesaving device.
“This is yet another disgraceful example in Conwy where council taxpayers are being fleeced by an inefficient and failing Local Authority. To target our older residents and our most vulnerable is frankly a disgrace. I shall be writing to the Leader of C.C.B.C today to request a U-turn on this shocking decision”.

O ddydd Gwener 1 Medi, bydd pris Teleofal Conwy, sy'n cefnogi pobl hŷn neu anabl trwy dechnoleg yn eu cartref, yn dyblu bron iawn.
Hysbyswyd y mwyafrif o gwsmeriaid trwy lythyr ym mis Awst, lai na mis cyn i’r pris godi. Bydd bil blynyddol Rhent a Monitro Teleofal yn cynyddu 70%, o £182.00 i £310.25.
Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy:
"Rwy'n synnu'n fawr o glywed bod Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy yn cynyddu'r bil blynyddol ar gyfer Teleofal o 70%.
"Mae hyn yn llawer uwch na'r gyfradd chwyddiant bresennol. Felly, does dim cyfiawnhad o gwbl bod y Cabinet presennol dan arweiniad Llafur Cymru/Plaid / Annibynnol yn cyflwyno cynnydd mor warthus am ddyfais a allai achub bywydau.
"Dyma enghraifft warthus arall yng Nghonwy lle mae trethdalwyr y cyngor yn cael eu twyllo gan Awdurdod Lleol aneffeithlon sy’n ein methu. Mae targedu ein preswylwyr hŷn a mwyaf bregus yn warthus. Byddaf yn ysgrifennu at Arweinydd Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy heddiw i ofyn am dro pedol ar y penderfyniad anfaddeuol hwn".
