Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has raised further concerns about Vaughan Gething MS, First Minister, undermining the climate and nature crisis in Wales.
Earlier this week, the Member scrutinised Huw Irranca-Davies MS, Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change, on the impact of the First Minister’s decision to accept a major £200,000 donation from an individual who has been convicted of environmental offences.
Whilst the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change would not be drawn on the impact of the donation on the Welsh Government’s stance on tackling the nature crisis, it has now been disclosed that the unspent £31,600 from Vaughan Gething’s leadership campaign will go to the Labour Party.
Commenting on the news that money from an environmental law breaker is now going to be supporting not only the First Minister, but all of Labour, Janet said:
“Jeremy Miles MS has drawn a clear red line that he would not have accepted the donation.
“Mick Antoniw MS has drawn a clear red line that he would not want the party to accept any unspent cash from Dauson Environmental Group.
“And the former Deputy Climate Change Minister for Wales, Lee Waters MS said that the First Minister should do the right thing and give back a £200,000 campaign donation.
“Earlier this week Huw Irranca-Davies MS refused to answer for his leader’s shortcomings in response to my questions. However, it is clear now that the First Minister’s donation will directly pollute every person in Labour, because the remaining funds are going to their party’s central pot.
“Labour campaigning may now be funded by cash from somebody convicted of environmental offences. As Andrew RT Davies MS rightly stated, now we will learn if Labour have the courage of their convictions.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi codi pryderon pellach am Vaughan Gething AS, y Prif Weinidog, yn tanseilio'r argyfwng hinsawdd a natur yng Nghymru.
Yn gynharach yr wythnos hon, craffodd yr Aelod ar Huw Irranca-Davies AS, Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Newid Hinsawdd, ynghylch effaith penderfyniad y Prif Weinidog i dderbyn rhodd sylweddol o £200,000 gan unigolyn a gafwyd yn euog o droseddau amgylcheddol.
Er nad oedd Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Newid Hinsawdd am ymateb i effaith y rhodd ar sefyllfa Llywodraeth Cymru o safbwynt mynd i'r afael â'r argyfwng natur, datgelwyd nawr y bydd yr £31,600 sydd heb ei wario o ymgyrch arweinyddiaeth Vaughan Gething yn mynd i'r Blaid Lafur.
Wrth ymateb i'r newyddion bod arian gan rywun sydd wedi torri cyfraith amgylcheddol bellach yn mynd i fod yn cefnogi nid yn unig y Prif Weinidog, ond Llafur i gyd, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae Jeremy Miles AS wedi tynnu llinell goch glir na fyddai wedi derbyn y rhodd.
“Mae Mick Antoniw AS wedi tynnu llinell goch glir na fyddai am i'r blaid dderbyn unrhyw arian heb ei wario gan Dauson Environmental Group.
“A dywedodd cyn-Ddirprwy Weinidog Newid Hinsawdd Cymru, Lee Waters AS y dylai'r Prif Weinidog wneud y peth iawn a dychwelyd y rhodd o £200,000.
“Yn gynharach yr wythnos hon gwrthododd Huw Irranca-Davies AS ateb am ddiffygion ei arweinydd mewn ymateb i’m cwestiynau. Fodd bynnag, mae'n amlwg rŵan y bydd cyfraniad y Prif Weinidog yn llygru pob aelod o'r Blaid Lafur yn uniongyrchol, gan fod gweddill yr arian yn mynd i botyn canolog eu plaid.
“Efallai y bydd ymgyrchoedd Llafur nawr yn cael eu hariannu gan arian parod rhywun a ganfuwyd yn euog o droseddau amgylcheddol. Roedd Andrew RT Davies AS yn llygad ei le pan ddywedodd y cawn weld nawr a ydy Llafur yn barod i sefyll yn gadarn dros eu credoau."
