Commenting on the actions of the Welsh Government in response the the Prime Minister's speech to the National Assembly for Wales today, Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM said: "I was appalled at the rude behaviour by some Assembly Members during – and following – the Prime Minister’s address. While I expected Labour’s block decision not to applaud or acknowledge the speech, their deliberate snub clearly shows their tribal instincts are very much intact – despite their promises. As for Plaid, the brief heckling that came from their benches was not only immature – particularly given the serious tone of the speech – it was embarrassing."
"I was really quite shocked and very disappointed that there was a decision not to clap or acknowledge the speech of our Prime Minister. I felt that the presiding Officer was most courteous in her approach, but it was very obvious by the silence from the other benches after his speech that this was intended as a snub. This is not a mature approach given the serious tone and speech content of our democratically elected Prime Minister.
"I have never witnessed such a deliberate act of rudeness in the 17 years I have been in politics, and for the record had it been Gordon Brown, Tony Blair or even Ed Milliband, I am confident that myself and my Conservative colleagues would not have behaved in this way."
