Darren Millar, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Clwyd West, has been elected unopposed as leader of the Welsh Conservative Party in Welsh Parliament.
Mr Millar has served in the Welsh Parliament since 2007 during which time he has held a number of influential positions, including as the Shadow Minister for the Constitution and North Wales, Chief Whip, and Shadow Minister for Health.
Commenting on Darren’s election as Leader, Janet said:
“I have known Darren for the past 20 years when he was in our Conservative group on Conwy County Borough Council and I was the Deputy Leader.
“Darren showed great promise then and we have worked very closely together, as friends and colleagues over the many years. He is also a very passionate politician and widely respected across the political divide. I firmly believe he has the enthusiasm, experience, and determination to take our group and Wales forward towards a brighter future.
“It is an honour for me to unequivocally support Darren as he leads us towards the next Senedd elections and beyond”.

Mae Darren Millar, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Orllewin Clwyd, wedi’i ethol yn ddiwrthwynebiad fel arweinydd y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn y Senedd.
Mae Mr Millar wedi gwasanaethu yn y Senedd ers 2007 ac yn ystod y cyfnod hwnnw mae wedi dal nifer o swyddi dylanwadol, gan gynnwys Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros y Cyfansoddiad a Gogledd Cymru, Prif Chwip, a Gweinidog Iechyd yr Wrthblaid.
Wrth sôn am etholiad Darren fel Arweinydd, dywedodd Janet:
"Rydw i wedi adnabod Darren am yr 20 mlynedd diwethaf pan oedd yn ein grŵp Ceidwadwyr ar Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy a finnau’n Ddirprwy Arweinydd.
"Dangosodd Darren addewid mawr bryd hynny ac rydyn ni wedi gweithio'n agos iawn gyda'n gilydd, fel ffrindiau a chydweithwyr dros gyfnod o flynyddoedd lawer. Mae hefyd yn wleidydd angerddol iawn ac yn uchel ei barch ar draws y rhaniad gwleidyddol. Credaf yn gryf fod ganddo'r brwdfrydedd, y profiad a'r penderfyniad i symud ein grŵp a Chymru ymlaen tuag at ddyfodol mwy disglair.
"Mae'n anrhydedd gen i gefnogi Darren i’r carn wrth iddo ein harwain tuag at etholiadau nesaf y Senedd a thu hwnt".
