Janet Finch-Saunders MS has welcomed the fantastic news that Wylfa in Anglesey has been chosen as the UK Conservative Government as the preferred site for a large-scale gigawatt nuclear power plant.
The UK Government is kickstarting talks with global energy firms to explore building the new power plant in North West Wales, which could provide enough clean, reliable and cheap power for 6 million homes for 60 years.
8,000 construction jobs and 800 steady state quality careers would be created at Wylfa Newydd alongside hundreds more secondary and supply chain jobs.
Commenting on this major UK Government announcement, Janet said:
“Having long championed investment in nuclear in North West Wales, I am absolutely delighted that the UK Government is powering ahead with the biggest expansion of nuclear energy in seventy years with our region at its heart.
“For us in Aberconwy, there is no doubt that this investment will bring more high skilled job opportunities for residents.
“I look forward to learning the outcome of UK Government talks with international energy companies”.
