Janet Finch-Saunders MS – the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy and the Welsh Conservatives’ Older People’s Champion – has today (02 October) welcomed the decision by the First Minister that single people in locked-down areas can form a bubble with people from one other household.
Earlier this week, Mrs Finch-Saunders urged the Welsh Health Minister to review the Welsh Government’s Coronavirus regulations to allow families to put in place a support network for those who live alone.
Welcoming the change, Janet said:
“The impact of isolation on people’s mental well-being, as a direct result of Coronavirus restrictions, cannot be underestimated. Therefore, I warmly welcome this decision from the Welsh Government as it is the humane and compassionate approach to take.
“Research carried out by Age UK earlier this year found that over two fifths of people aged 70 and over believe that their mental health is affected badly by Coronavirus restrictions. This is a real concern for my constituency, which is part of the County with the highest percentage of older people aged over 65.
“Authorities must always ensure that due respect is given to our right for private and family life. The decision that single people in Welsh locked-down areas can now form a bubble with people from one other household ensures that this human right can be maintained.”
