Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is growing increasingly frustrated with Conwy County Borough Council's lack of action regarding the Craig-y-Don paddling pool.
An FOI request has revealed this week that the nearly two years’ worth of work has cost £257,604, with more potentially required to complete the work.
As was reported a couple of week ago by Janet, the pool has now been closed for over 660 days with no set date for its reopening.
Janet recently sent a letter to Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, Leader of Conwy Council, and Cabinet Member Cllr Aaron Wynne, urging them to expedite the work and reopen the pool.
Commenting on the news, Janet said:
“The length of time this has taken is already an absolute disgrace, and now I learn that the whole project has cost over a quarter of a million pounds.
“This has been so disheartening to residents who rely on the pool for leisure and relaxing. I have written to the Council on a number of occasions, urging them to provide a date for the completion of the works.
“Conwy Council must engage with me and the public on this, open the pool for the Summer, and explain how they have allowed what seems to be complete mismanagement of a tax payer’s funded facility. As it stands, I think that Cllr Wynne has little option but to take responsibility and resign from the Cabinet”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn mynd yn fwyfwy rhwystredig gyda diffyg gweithredu Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy ynghylch pwll padlo Craig-y-Don.
Mae cais Rhyddid Gwybodaeth wedi datgelu yr wythnos hon bod gwerth bron i ddwy flynedd o waith wedi costio £257,604, ac mae’n bosibl y bydd mwy yn ofynnol i gwblhau'r gwaith.
Fel y dywedodd Janet ychydig wythnosau’n ôl, mae'r pwll bellach ar gau ers dros 660 diwrnod ac nid oes dyddiad penodol wedi’i roi ar gyfer ei ailagor.
Yn ddiweddar, anfonodd Janet lythyr at y Cynghorydd Charlie McCoubrey, Arweinydd Cyngor Conwy, a'r Aelod Cabinet, y Cynghorydd Aaron Wynne, yn eu hannog i geisio cyflymu’r gwaith er mwyn ailagor y pwll.
Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:
"Mae'r amser y mae hyn wedi'i gymryd eisoes yn warth llwyr, a nawr rwy'n deall bod y prosiect cyfan wedi costio dros chwarter miliwn o bunnoedd.
"Mae hyn wedi bod mor ddigalon i drigolion sy'n dibynnu ar y pwll ar gyfer hamdden ac ymlacio. Rwyf wedi ysgrifennu at y Cyngor sawl gwaith, gan ofyn yn daer iddynt roi dyddiad ar gyfer cwblhau'r gwaith.
"Mae'n rhaid i Gyngor Conwy gyfathrebu â mi a'r cyhoedd ar hyn, agor y pwll ar gyfer yr Haf ac egluro sut maen nhw wedi caniatáu sefyllfa sy'n ymddangos yn achos o gamreoli llwyr ar gyfleuster sy'n cael ei ariannu gan drethdalwr. Fel mae pethau, rwy'n credu nad oes gan y Cynghorydd Wynne fawr o ddewis ond cymryd cyfrifoldeb ac ymddiswyddo o'r Cabinet".
