Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is delighted to see that two local entrepreneurs have taken it upon themselves to release a series of books aimed at breaking the stigma of disabilities and special educational needs.
Sylvia Harper and Holly Morgan, aged 15, have released a series of books covering topics such as deafness, blindness, autism and A.D.H.D. They are colourful, bright and vibrant and have a balance of text and pictures to aid understanding of the stories.
Their aim is to produce a series of books that promote awareness and, specifically, try to create a better understanding between children with special needs and those without.
As Sylvia explains: “Having noticed the bullying and teasing my two great grandchildren have had to put up with over the last few years, I realised it was mostly down to misunderstanding.”

Commenting on the news, Janet said:
“This is truly wonderful idea by a grandmother and a young bright minded 15 year old. I absolutely agree that there continues to be a stigma around these issues and its great to see it being tackled in such a colourful and positive way.
“I believe these books have the potential to be in every nursery and school across the UK, and indeed this is their ambition. However, they need some help in achieving this. I therefore kindly ask the Welsh Government if they would provide some funding and marketing power to achieve this.
“I see potential here for a wonderful Welsh story. One of humble beginnings that will further cultivate our virtues of respect, recognition and responsibility.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn falch iawn o weld bod dau entrepreneur lleol wedi cyhoeddi cyfres o lyfrau gyda'r nod o chwalu’r stigma ynghylch anableddau ac anghenion addysgol arbennig.
Mae Sylvia Harper a Holly Morgan, 15 oed, wedi rhyddhau cyfres o lyfrau sy'n ymdrin â phynciau fel byddardod, dallineb, awtistiaeth ac ADHDD. Maen nhw’n lliwgar a bywiog, gyda chydbwysedd da o destun a lluniau i gynorthwyo dealltwriaeth o'r straeon.
Eu nod yw cyhoeddi cyfres o lyfrau sy'n hyrwyddo ymwybyddiaeth ac, yn benodol, ceisio creu gwell dealltwriaeth rhwng plant ag anghenion arbennig a'r rhai hebddynt.
Fel yr eglura Sylvia: "Ar ôl sylwi ar y bwlio a’r tynnu coes mae fy nau gor-ŵyr wedi gorfod eu dioddef dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf, sylweddolais mai camddealltwriaeth oedd wrth wraidd hyn yn bennaf."

Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:
"Syniad gwirioneddol wych gan nain a merch ifanc ddisglair 15 oed. Rwy'n cytuno'n llwyr fod stigma o hyd ynghylch y materion hyn ac mae'n wych ei weld yn cael ei daclo mewn ffordd mor lliwgar a chadarnhaol.
"Rwy'n credu bod gan y llyfrau hyn y potensial i fod ym mhob meithrinfa ac ysgol ledled y DU, a dyma eu huchelgais. Fodd bynnag, mae angen help arnyn nhw i gyflawni hyn. Felly, gofynnaf yn garedig i Lywodraeth Cymru a fydden nhw’n darparu rhywfaint o gyllid a phŵer marchnata i gyflawni hyn.
"Rwy'n gweld potensial yma am stori Gymreig wych. Un o ddechreuadau digon cyffredin sy’n mynd ymlaen i feithrin ymhellach ein rhinweddau o barch, cydnabyddiaeth a chyfrifoldeb."
