Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has raised concerns with Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, Leader of the Council, Conwy County Borough Council, that many residents have been left isolated in the County due to no gritting support on several roads.
The Local Authority aim to make sure they spread grit on First Priority Routes before ice forms. First Priority Routes include main roads, main bus routes and emergency services routes. This means that there are housing estates, schools, and lanes across the County which are not guaranteed to see a gritter.
Commenting on gritting, Janet said:
“I would like to thank the gritting team who have been out keeping First Priority Routes open.
“The problem we have is that there are countless estates across Aberconwy, from Penmachno to Penmaenmawr, which gritters do not reach, so residents are left to scatter salt themselves, if some is available.
“The reality is that I know of mothers with babies, elderly, and vulnerable people, unable to leave their homes because of the risk of ice.
“There are parents trying to take children to school, yet some highways outside places of education are like ice rinks.
“From Melin y Coed to Craig y Don, I know of dangerous hills were gritters have not been present, and it is genuinely dangerous for residents to try and take personal action, so we as a community should do better.
“There is a need for Conwy County Borough Council to develop a plan with the community so to ensure that roads are gritted, be that with the help of a team of volunteers, town and community councils, or the Local Authority’s own gritters.”
ENDS
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi rhannu pryderon gyda'r Cynghorydd Charlie McCoubrey, Arweinydd y Cyngor, Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy, bod llawer o drigolion wedi’u hynysu yn y Sir oherwydd nad oes cymorth graeanu ar sawl ffordd.
Nod yr Awdurdod Lleol yw sicrhau eu bod yn lledaenu graean ar Lwybrau Blaenoriaeth Gyntaf cyn i rew ffurfio. Mae'r Llwybrau Blaenoriaeth Gyntaf yn cynnwys prif ffyrdd, prif lwybrau bysiau a llwybrau'r gwasanaethau brys. Mae hyn yn golygu nad oes sicrwydd bod ystadau tai, ysgolion a lonydd ar draws y Sir yn cael eu graeanu.
Wrth sôn am raeanu, dywedodd Janet:
"Hoffwn ddiolch i'r tîm graeanu sydd wedi bod allan yn cadw Llwybrau Blaenoriaeth Gyntaf ar agor.
"Y broblem sydd gyda ni yw bod ystadau di-ri ar draws Aberconwy, o Benmachno i Benmaenmawr, sydd heb eu graeanu, felly mae trigolion yn cael eu gadael i wasgaru halen eu hunain, os oes peth ar gael.
"Y gwir amdani yw fy mod i'n gwybod am famau â babanod, pobl oedrannus a bregus, sy’n methu gadael eu cartrefi oherwydd y risg o rew.
"Mae rhieni yn ceisio mynd â phlant i'r ysgol, ond eto mae rhai priffyrdd y tu allan i leoliadau addysg fel lloriau iâ.
"O Felin y Coed i Graig y Don, rwy’n gwybod am elltydd peryglus heb eu graeanu, ac mae'n wirioneddol beryglus i drigolion geisio gwneud rhywbeth am y peth yn bersonol, felly dylen ni fel cymuned wneud mwy.
"Mae angen i Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy ddatblygu cynllun gyda'r gymuned er mwyn sicrhau bod ffyrdd yn cael eu graeanu, boed hynny gyda chymorth tîm o wirfoddolwyr, cynghorau tref a chymuned, neu raeanwyr yr Awdurdod Lleol ei hun."
