Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is delighted to see that Huw Irranca-Davies MS, Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs is delaying the implementation of the Sustainable Farming Scheme until 2026.
The Cabinet Secretary wrote that “[t]his new timeframe will give us the opportunity to do a number of important things. It will allow me to have the conversations and discussions we need to have with Plaid Cymru, as part of the Cooperation Agreement, and with the members of the Ministerial Roundtable. I intend to work at pace to identify areas of agreement and place the emphasis on matters where more work is required.”
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“I praise the Cabinet Secretary for his revised timeline for implementing the Sustainable Farming Scheme.
“We need to make the most of this opportunity to intensify our efforts to ensure that this scheme caters effectively to all types of farms, sectors, and regions across Wales.
“I have been clear, and remain steadfast that there should not be a single Universal Action that can be perceived as dictating what farmers have to do, or micro-manage their businesses. There has to be trust!
“I thank all those who have consistently applied pressure on the Welsh Government, notably NFU Cymru, FUW, and my own constituent, Mr Gareth Wyn Jones, prompting them to reconsider the implementation of the scheme.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy, wrth ei bodd o weld bod Huw Irranca-Davies AS, Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Newid Hinsawdd a Materion Gwledig yn gohirio gweithredu'r Cynllun Ffermio Cynaliadwy tan 2026.
Ysgrifennodd Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet gan ddweud "bydd yr amserlen newydd hon yn rhoi cyfle i ni wneud nifer o bethau pwysig. Bydd yn gyfle imi gael y trafodaethau sydd eu hangen gyda Phlaid Cymru, fel rhan o'r Cytundeb Cydweithio, a chydag aelodau'r Ford Gron Weinidogol. Dwi'n bwriadu gweithio'n gyflym i nodi'r meysydd y gallwn gytuno arnyn nhw er mwyn gallu canolbwyntio wedyn ar y materion sydd angen mwy o sylw."
Meddai Janet wrth ymateb i'r newyddion:
“Rwy'n canmol Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet am ei amserlen ddiwygiedig ar weithredu'r Cynllun Ffermio Cynaliadwy.
“Mae angen i ni wneud y gorau o'r cyfle hwn i ddwysáu ein hymdrechion i sicrhau bod y cynllun hwn yn darparu'n effeithiol ar gyfer pob math o ffermydd, sectorau a rhanbarthau ledled Cymru.
“Rydw i wedi dweud yn glir, ac rwy'n parhau'n gadarn o'r farn, na ddylid cael un cam cyffredinol, y gellir ei weld fel gorchymyn sy’n dweud wrth ffermwyr beth i’w wneud, neu’n microreoli eu busnesau. Rhaid cael ymdeimlad o ymddiriedaeth!
“Diolch i bawb sydd wedi rhoi pwysau cyson ar Lywodraeth Cymru, yn enwedig NFU Cymru, Undeb Amaethwyr Cymru, a’m hetholwr fy hun, Mr Gareth Wyn Jones, ac sydd wedi llwyddo i’w hannog i ailystyried gweithredu'r cynllun.”
