Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has welcomed the news that Betws-y-Coed has been named as the UK hotspot for a “staycation”.
Research conducted by experts at GO Outdoors looked at the number of hiking, biking, nature and wildlife, as well as the average cost of transport and how popular the destination is.
This was all put together into an overall “holiday hotspot” score, with Betws-y-Coed topping the list with 8.4 out of 10.
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“I would like to thank members of the hospitality and tourism sector in Betws-y-Coed and the wider community. Even at a time when business rate support is being continuously cut and we have to deal with the issues arising from the introduction of Labour’s proposed tourism tax, seeing this award is excellent news. I hope this fills the Betws-y-Coed community with pride.
The Welsh government must do more to work with local businesses in order to guarantee they enjoy a boost to their trade and to ensure that more of the Welsh beauty spots are rightly recognised in the way Betws-y-Coed has been”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi croesawu'r newyddion bod Betws-y-coed wedi’i henwi fel cyrchfan dwristiaid fwyaf poblogaidd y DU ar gyfer "gwyliau gartref”.
Roedd yr ymchwil a gynhaliwyd gan arbenigwyr yn GO Outdoors yn edrych ar weithgareddau heicio, beicio, natur a bywyd gwyllt, yn ogystal â chost trafnidiaeth ar gyfartaledd a phoblogrwydd y gyrchfan.
Roedd y cyfan yn cyfrannu at sgôr "cyrchfan boblogaidd" gyffredinol, gyda Betws-y-coed ar frig y rhestr gyda sgôr o 8.4 allan o 10.
Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:
"Hoffwn ddiolch i aelodau'r sector lletygarwch a thwristiaeth ym Metws-y-coed a'r gymuned ehangach. Hyd yn oed ar adeg pan fo cymorth ardrethi busnes yn cael ei dorri'n barhaus a bod yn rhaid i ni ddelio â'r materion sy'n codi o gyflwyno treth dwristiaeth arfaethedig Llafur, mae clywed am y wobr hon yn newyddion ardderchog. Gobeithio y bydd yn destun balchder mawr i gymuned Betws-y-coed.
Rhaid i Lywodraeth Cymru wneud mwy i weithio gyda busnesau lleol er mwyn sicrhau eu bod yn mwynhau hwb i'w masnach a bod mwy o fannau prydferth Cymru yn cael eu cydnabod yn briodol fel Betws-y-coed".
