The Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has thrown her weight behind this year’s Agriculture Mental Health Week, and has reminded the Welsh farming community to reach out for help whenever needed.
Mrs Finch-Saunders said:
“The struggles that farmers face, from bovine TB to the pressures affecting any business owner, from the astonishingly low price of a sheep’s fleece to the isolation many farmers live with – especially since the start of the pandemic – are sadly all too prevalent.
“And so, I fully support this great initiative to encourage our farmers and all those in the agricultural sector to find the support they need, whether from one of the charities here in Wales, from their farming unions, or from a friend because it is good to talk.
“However, as I have said previously, I urge the Welsh Labour-led Government to launch a digital, TV, and radio awareness campaign that signposts our farmers towards counselling and support services.”
