Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is frustrated by the new recycling rules for businesses in Wales.
From the 6th or April it has been law for all businesses, charities and public sector organisations to more widely sort their waste for recycling. This will require them to sperate their recycling beyond the usual paper/cardboard and plastic into additional metal, unsold textiles and electronic equipment.
According to the Welsh Government all recycling will need to be separated into:
- Food
- Paper and cardboard
- Glass
- Metal, plastic and cartons
- Unsold textiles
- Unsold small waste electrical and electronic equipment
There will also be a ban on sending food waste into the water system, i.e down the drain, and separately collected waste going to incineration and landfill.
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“Of course, recycling is a brilliant policy that we all take part in, however, it has now been taken and turned into a ridiculous game of guess the bin which will only irritate people as we go about our busy lives.
“Businesses with outdoor space are seeing large areas filled up with numerous different bins, and no consideration has been given to those without room for more rubbish receptacles.
“I voted and spoke out against the new business recycling rules. Now that they are being put into practice I believe more than ever that the regulations needs to be scrapped”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn rhwystredig iawn ynglŷn â’r rheolau ailgylchu newydd ar gyfer busnesau yng Nghymru.
Ers 6 Ebrill, yn ôl y gyfraith, mae’n rhaid i bob busnes, elusen a sefydliad sector cyhoeddus ddidoli eu gwastraff yn ehangach ar gyfer ei ailgylchu. Mae hyn yn ei gwneud yn ofynnol iddyn nhw wahanu eu hailgylchu y tu hwnt i'r drefn papur/cardbord a phlastig arferol i gynnwys metel, tecstilau heb eu gwerthu ac offer electronig.
Yn ôl Llywodraeth Cymru, bydd angen gwahanu'r holl ddeunydd i'w hailgylchu i'r categorïau canlynol:
- Bwyd
- Papur a chardbord
- Gwydr
- Metel, plastig a chartonau
- Tecstilau heb eu gwerthu
- Offer trydanol ac electronig gwastraff (WEEE) bach heb eu gwerthu
Bydd gwaharddiad hefyd ar anfon gwastraff bwyd i'r system ddŵr h.y. i lawr y draen, ac anfon gwastraff a gesglir ar wahân i'w losgi ac i safleoedd tirlenwi.
Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:
“Wrth gwrs, mae ailgylchu yn bolisi gwych rydyn ni i gyd yn cyfrannu ato, ond mae bellach wedi troi mewn i gêm chwerthinllyd o ddyfalu'r bin a fydd ond yn cythruddo pobl wrth i ni fyw ein bywydau prysur.
“Mae busnesau sydd â gofod awyr agored yn gweld ardaloedd mawr yn cael eu llenwi â nifer o finiau gwahanol, ac nid oes unrhyw ystyriaeth wedi'i rhoi i'r rhai sydd heb le i gael mwy o finiau sbwriel.
“Fe wnes i bleidleisio a siarad yn erbyn y rheolau ailgylchu busnes newydd. Nawr eu bod nhw'n cael eu rhoi ar waith, rwy’n fwy crediniol nag erioed fod angen dileu'r rheoliadau”.
