Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken out about the current housing crisis in Wales.
The Welsh Government are failing on housebuilding, and are not meeting targets. Wales needs around 7,400 houses built per year when last year just 5,273 were built.
This has resulted in many families being homeless, and having to live in hotels or temporary accommodation.
The Welsh Government’s cooperation agreement with Plaid Cymru are not tackling this problem, and are targeting the holiday-let sector, and council tax charges on second homes.
Commenting on the housing crisis, Janet said,
“The Welsh Government are not building anywhere near the amount of homes we need. They are failing.
“I have many constituents living in hotels, some in single rooms with their entire families, simply because there is not enough affordable housing, nor enough rented social housing.
“The Welsh Government are focusing on the council tax premium for second homes, and limiting the holiday let sector to 182 days of use, when the real issue is lack of affordable and rented social housing.”
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi siarad am yr argyfwng tai presennol yng Nghymru.
Mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn methu ar adeiladu tai, a dydyn nhw ddim yn cyrraedd targedau. Mae angen adeiladu tua 7,400 o dai ar Gymru bob blwyddyn, 5,273 gafodd eu hadeiladu'r llynedd.
Mae hyn wedi arwain at lawer o deuluoedd yn ddigartref, ac yn gorfod byw mewn gwestai neu lety dros dro.
Dydy cytundeb cydweithio Llywodraeth Cymru gyda Phlaid Cymru ddim yn mynd i'r afael â'r broblem hon, ac maen nhw’n targedu'r sector llety gwyliau, a thaliadau treth gyngor ar ail gartrefi.
Wrth sôn am yr argyfwng tai, meddai Janet,
"Dyw Llywodraeth Cymru ddim yn adeiladu hanner digon o’r cartrefi sydd eu hangen arnom ni. Maen nhw'n methu.
"Mae gen i lawer o etholwyr yn byw mewn gwestai, rhai mewn ystafelloedd sengl gyda'u teuluoedd cyfan, dim ond oherwydd nad oes digon o dai fforddiadwy, na digon o dai cymdeithasol i’w rhentu.
"Mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn canolbwyntio ar y premiwm treth gyngor ar gyfer ail gartrefi, ac yn cyfyngu'r sector llety gwyliau i feddiannaeth 182 diwrnod, pan mai'r broblem go iawn yw diffyg tai cymdeithasol fforddiadwy a thai rhent."
