Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy and Shadow Minister for Local Government has today praised Ysgol Gogarth on its school redevelopment project after visiting the site on 8th March.
Janet said: "The redevelopment of this Registered Special State School is a huge step forward in enabling a first class centre of excellence for those children who require a more intensive programme of specialised educational support. As a former Councillor in Craig-y-Don and Craig-Side for many years and also as a former school Governor of Ysgol y Gogarth I am only too well aware of the genuine need for this new and enhanced facility.
The new development when completed will consist of a new entrance hall, a multipurpose sports hall and climbing wall, an enhanced hydrotherapy suite, specialist classrooms, improved IT facilities and much more. A particular interesting feature is the provision of individual therapeutic soft play and cognitive therapy suites.
It was so nice to learn that many of the teachers and pupils themselves have been involved throughout the process even down to choosing some of the individual colour schemes to be used in the classrooms."
Janet added: "I look forward to the completion of this development and I would like to pay tribute to the developers, Willmott Dixon, Conwy County Borough Council Officers, the teachers, governors, staff and pupils. Not forgetting, of course, the co-operation and understanding of our local community who between them have co-operated at every stage in order to deliver this much-needed and superb facility on time and within the original budget."
