Further to the announcement by the Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP, of an effective lockdown of the United Kingdom to slow the spread of COVID-19, Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, has called for stronger business support.
Commenting on the situation, Janet said:
“The Prime Minister’s message could not be clearer: we must stay at home other than for very limited purposes.
“The increase we saw in the number of visitors over the weekend placed a huge burden on local NHS services an supply chains, and put tourists and local residents at risk.
“The number one priority at present is to stop the spread of the virus to protect the NHS and keep our people safe.
“I welcome the fact that the Prime Minister’s action will contribute to halting the spread of the disease.
“I am aware that COVID-19 is having a detrimental impact on local businesses, including those in the hospitality sector.
“I know the negative impact the rules will have, and that some businesses across North Wales are hitting rock bottom, so am working to hold the Welsh Government to account on support such as grants, business rates, and other financial assistance to mitigate the risk to numerous sectors.
“If you have a business which is negatively affected and would like support, please do get in touch.
“We are reliant on business in Aberconwy, so I am on hand to help ensure that the State helps you.
“It is my belief that the Government should be strongly intervening to help enterprises bridge this global crisis”.
