Public Health Wales, Conwy County Borough Council, and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are urging all of us living in the Llandudno Junction, Llandudno and Penrhyn Bay areas to be alert for Coronavirus symptoms and to take a test as soon as possible even if we have no symptoms. The call comes after a further 35 confirmed or presumptive cases of the variant of concern first identified in India, VOC-21APR-02, were found here over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Tests are available for residents without symptoms at the walk-in and drive-through testing centre at Bodlondeb Council Offices, Bangor Rd, Conwy, LL32 8DU. This will be open from 8:00am to 13:00pm and 14:00pm to 20:00pm, until 14 June 2021. Tests are available for residents with symptoms at the Conwy Business Centre, Junction Way, Llandudno Junction, LL31 9XX. This is a walk in/drive through centre. No appointment is necessary and it is open from 8:00am to 13:00pm and 14:00pm to 20:00pm until 14 June 2021.
Whilst you may not have a symptom, your selfless action could help identify further cases, and enable contact tracers to take action to put a stop to the spread of the variant. By pulling together as a community there is reason for hope that we can keep the variant of concern under control.
There is also great hope for our local tourism and hospitality sector as I have already made inroads in making the Welsh Government see sense. Further to me raising concern in the Senedd that hotels were not allowed to have live entertainment, and that this was resulting in some entertainers being out of work for over a year, and coach trips turning to England, there has been positive progress.
The Welsh Government have now allowed live performances. This change is reflected in the UKHospitality Cymru guidance which states that live performances can take place subject to businesses undertaking a full risk assessment for each venue in line with all guidance in place for hospitality settings and guidance for a phased return for rehearsing, performing and taking part in the performing arts. This change recognises the value of evening entertainment to the seaside and rural resorts of Aberconwy. More so, it means that more people will be able to enjoy themselves in the Covid secure areas that hotels have become.
I have also been striving to support businesses and residents last week by pushing forwards my longstanding project to see superfast made available to as many premises as possible across Aberconwy. To my delight, Openreach have now informed me that 7,309 properties across the constituency will be connected to full-fibre broadband. Whilst the specific timings of the roll-out are currently pending, you can be sure that I will be pursuing this with relevant officials.
