Ahead of the First Minister’s expected announcement that alert level zero protective measures will be strengthened, and that should rates not begin to fall over the next three weeks, Ministers will have to consider reintroducing some restrictions, Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Aberconwy, has championed the cause of local businesses by seeking urgent clarity as to what business support is planned in the face of further restrictions.
Commenting ahead of the review, Janet said:
“There is a real risk that the introduction of further restrictions could harm a number of businesses in Aberconwy.
“Whilst the Welsh Government announcement details the welcome news that head teachers will be given extra support to quickly put measures in place in their schools if case rates are high locally, no mention is made of support for businesses.
“We need urgent assurance that should the restrictions being announced today negatively impact on the theatre and cinema in Aberconwy, financial support will be available.
“More so, I urge the First Minister to commit now to outlining what package of support will be offered to businesses should Ministers pursue additional measures in three weeks’ time”.
