Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, and Shadow Minister for Climate Change, has urged the Minister for Climate Change, Julie James MS, to provide clarity as when fire safety passport surveys will be completed.
So far, the scheme has received 248 expressions of interest.
Adroit Economic Ltd has been appointed to undertake the work which will commence on 1 March 2022.
Commenting on the urgent need to improve fire safety in buildings across Wales, Janet said:
“Over four years on since the Grenfell catastrophe it is unacceptable that Welsh residents are still living in fear in their homes.
“The announcement by the Welsh Government that work is to commence on the fire safety surveys on 1 March is a step in the right direction, but how long will it take the contractor to undertake around 250 surveys?
“In fact, bearing in mind that the passport will provide a single point of truth on what is required to make buildings safe from fire, it is clear that residents will be waiting even longer for their homes to be made safe if changes are needed.
“That we are yet again at a point which requires more patience and waiting really does highlight the need for the Welsh Government to explain why they are seemingly so slow to support people who are scared that their residence is a literal tinderbox”.

Written Statement: Welsh Building Safety Passport Fund Update
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr AS dros Aberconwy a Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Newid Hinsawdd, wedi annog y Gweinidog Newid Hinsawdd, Julie James AS, i egluro pryd y bydd arolygon pasbort diogelwch tân yn cael eu cwblhau.
Hyd yn hyn, mae'r cynllun wedi derbyn 248 o ddatganiadau o ddiddordeb.
Penodwyd Adroit Economic Ltd i ymgymryd â'r gwaith a fydd yn dechrau ar 1 Mawrth 2022.
Wrth sôn am yr angen dybryd i wella diogelwch tân mewn adeiladau ledled Cymru, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae pedair blynedd wedi pasio ers trychineb Grenfell ac mae'n annerbyniol bod trigolion Cymru yn dal i fyw mewn ofn yn eu cartrefi.
“Mae'r cyhoeddiad gan Lywodraeth Cymru y bydd gwaith yn dechrau ar yr arolygon diogelwch tân ar 1 Mawrth yn gam i'r cyfeiriad cywir, ond am faint y bydd yn rhaid disgwyl i’r contractwr gynnal tua 250 o arolygon?
“O gofio y bydd y pasbort yn darparu un pwynt o wirionedd ar yr hyn sy'n ofynnol i wneud adeiladau'n ddiogel rhag tân, mae'n amlwg y bydd preswylwyr yn aros hyd yn oed yn hirach i'w cartrefi gael eu gwneud yn ddiogel os oes angen newidiadau.
“Unwaith eto, rydym ar bwynt lle mae angen mwy o amynedd ac mae'r holl aros yn pwysleisio'r angen i Lywodraeth Cymru esbonio pam maen nhw mor araf yn cefnogi pobl sy'n ofni bod eu cartref yn flwch tân i bob pwrpas".
