On Monday 6 February, Turkey and Syria were hit by two huge earthquakes within hours of each other. The disaster has left over 15,000 people dead, and thousands still missing.
As a result of the earthquakes, buildings have collapsed leaving people trapped with rescuers trying to free them as quick as possible. Multiple countries have sent humanitarian aid as well as personnel, some of these include 77 UK Search and Rescue personnel from across the country, accompanied by specialist equipment including four sniffer dogs.
The Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) Cymru have today [9 February] launched an appeal for urgent funds to help the Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has commented on the appeal, saying:
The DEC Cymru’s earthquake appeal is an excellent way to get urgent aid to the region, and help the most vulnerable
I want to encourage everyone that can spare any money to donate to this worthy cause
With thousands dead, missing or without a home, I urge everyone to give money instead of clothes, blankets or any other supplies. The logistics to get such items collected from across the UK over to the regions affected is very difficult. With monetary donations, the necessary supplies can be shipped from a central location in high volumes to the people most in need.
I want to thank all of you that have donated already, and the UK emergency service personnel in the region. I hope they return home safely”

Ddydd Llun 6 Chwefror, cafodd Twrci a Syria eu taro gan ddau ddaeargryn enfawr o fewn oriau i'w gilydd. Mae'r drychineb wedi lladd dros 15,000 o bobl, a miloedd yn dal ar goll.
O ganlyniad i'r daeargrynfeydd, mae adeiladau wedi cwympo gan adael pobl yn gaeth gydag achubwyr yn ceisio eu rhyddhau cyn gynted â phosibl. Mae sawl gwlad wedi anfon cymorth dyngarol yn ogystal â gweithwyr, mae rhai o'r rhain yn cynnwys 77 o weithwyr Chwilio ac Achub y DU o bob rhan o'r wlad, ynghyd ag offer arbenigol gan gynnwys pedwar ci arogli.
Heddiw [9 Chwefror], mae'r Pwyllgor Argyfwng Trychinebau (DEC) Cymru wedi lansio apêl am arian brys i helpu dioddefwyr daeargryn Twrci a Syria.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi siarad am yr apêl, gan ddweud:
"Mae apêl daeargryn DEC Cymru yn ffordd wych o gael cymorth brys i'r rhanbarth, a helpu'r bobl fwyaf bregus"
"Rwyf am annog pawb sy'n gallu i roi arian tuag at yr achos teilwng hwn"
"Gyda miloedd wedi marw, ar goll neu heb gartref, rwy'n annog pawb i roi arian yn lle dillad, blancedi neu unrhyw gyflenwadau eraill. Mae'r logisteg i o gludo eitemau o’r fath a gasglwyd ym mhob cwr o’r DU i’r rhanbarthau yr effeithwyd arnyn nhw’n anodd iawn. Gyda rhoddion ariannol, gellir cludo llawer iawn o gyflenwadau angenrheidiol o leoliad canolog i'r bobl sydd fwyaf mewn angen.
"Rwyf am ddiolch i bob un ohonoch chi sydd wedi cyfrannu'n barod, a gweithwyr gwasanaethau brys y DU yn y rhanbarth. Gobeithio y byddan nhw'n dychwelyd adref yn ddiogel"
