Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has called on the Welsh Government and Transport for Wales to take the Conwy Valley railway line seriously. This forms part of her ongoing campaign to see public transport improved in Aberconwy.
The calls come after Transport for Wales responded to her scrutiny by disclosing that the line had a bus substitution in place on 244 days during the last two financial years separately, and that on 18 days in total there were no rail or replacement bus services (3 of which due to extreme weather conditions).
Commenting on the major use of bus replacement services, Janet said:
“As residents have rightly highlighted to me, Transport for Wales should be renamed Transport for South Wales.
“TfW are failing the Conwy Valley line. There is no acceptable reason for the use of bus replacements on 244 days over the last two financial years.
“Even worse is the fact that TfW completely abandoned the route for 18 days, providing no train nor bus. Whilst I acknowledge that extreme weather caused serious difficulties on 3 days, what about the other two weeks’ worth of cancellations?
“Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change, is not taking the promised action to improve the A470 in Aberconwy, has failed to save the T19 between Llandudno and Blaenanu Ffestiniog, and is allowing TfW to deliver an unreliable rail service on the Conwy Valley line.”
ENDS
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru a Trafnidiaeth Cymru i gymryd rheilffordd Dyffryn Conwy o ddifrif. Mae hyn yn rhan o'i hymgyrch barhaus i weld trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus yn gwella yn Aberconwy.
Daw'r galwadau wedi i Trafnidiaeth Cymru ymateb i'w gwaith craffu trwy ddatgelu bod gwasanaeth bysiau wedi cymryd lle trenau am 244 o ddiwrnodau yn ystod y ddwy flynedd ariannol ddiwethaf, ac nad oedd gwasanaethau trên neu wasanaethau bysiau yn lle trenau am 18 diwrnod i gyd (3 diwrnod oherwydd tywydd garw).
Wrth sôn am y defnydd mawr o wasanaethau bysiau yn lle trenau, dywedodd Janet:
"Fel mae trigolion wedi nodi, ac roedden nhw’n iawn i wneud hynny, dylai Trafnidiaeth Cymru gael ei ailenwi'n Trafnidiaeth De Cymru.
"Mae TrC yn methu â chyflawni ar linell Dyffryn Conwy. Does dim rheswm derbyniol dros ddefnyddio bysiau yn lle trenau ar 244 diwrnod dros y ddwy flynedd ariannol ddiwethaf.
“Beth sy’n waeth na hynny yw bod TrC wedi cefnu ar y llwybr yn llwyr am 18 diwrnod, heb ddarparu unrhyw drenau na bysiau. Er fy mod yn cydnabod bod tywydd eithafol wedi achosi trafferthion difrifol ar 3 diwrnod, beth am y pythefnos arall o ganslo gwasanaethau?
"Dyw Lee Waters AS, y Dirprwy Weinidog Newid Hinsawdd, ddim yn cymryd y camau a addawyd i wella'r A470 yn Aberconwy, mae wedi methu ag achub y gwasanaeth T19 rhwng Llandudno a Blaenau Ffestiniog, ac mae'n caniatáu i TrC ddarparu gwasanaeth rheilffordd annibynadwy ar linell Dyffryn Conwy."
