Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken out about the fact that the troubled North Wales health board has seen one of its independent board members resign just one week after being appointed.
Commenting on the recent appointment of former Betsi Cadwaladr mental health director Lesley Singleton as an independent board member and her subsequent resignation, Janet said:
“The leadership crisis at the Health Board was not going to be resolved by appointing a previous employee. It needs new, independent, thinkers.
“As a former executive director of the Health Board, Lesley Singleton should never have been appointed. The decision shows dreadful judgment by the Health Minister.
“Aberconwy constituents deserve complete clarity as to how all individuals are appointed to the Health Board, so I have asked the Health Minister to review the process so that there is greater clarity going forward.”

Written Question: to the Minister for Health and Social Services, Eluned Morgan MS:
Will the Minister review the process of appointing independent board members to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board with the aim of establishing how there can be greater transparency going forward?
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi mynegi ei barn am y ffaith bod bwrdd iechyd y Gogledd wedi gweld un o aelodau annibynnol y bwrdd yn ymddiswyddo wythnos yn unig ar ôl cael ei phenodi.
Wrth sôn am benodiad diweddar cyn-gyfarwyddwr iechyd meddwl Betsi Cadwaladr, Lesley Singleton, fel aelod annibynnol o'r bwrdd, a'i hymddiswyddiad wedi hynny, dywedodd Janet:
“Doedd yr argyfwng arweinyddiaeth yn y Bwrdd Iechyd ddim yn mynd i gael ei ddatrys drwy benodi gweithiwr blaenorol. Mae angen meddylwyr newydd, annibynnol arno.
“Fel cyn-gyfarwyddwr gweithredol y Bwrdd Iechyd, ni ddylai Lesley Singleton fod wedi cael ei phenodi. Mae'r penderfyniad yn dangos diffyg crebwyll ofnadwy gan y Gweinidog Iechyd.
“Mae etholwyr Aberconwy yn haeddu eglurder llwyr o ran sut mae pob unigolyn yn cael ei benodi i'r Bwrdd Iechyd, felly rydw i wedi gofyn i'r Gweinidog Iechyd adolygu'r broses fel bod mwy o eglurder wrth symud ymlaen.”

Cwestiwn Ysgrifenedig: at y Gweinidog Iechyd a Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol, Eluned Morgan AS:
A wnaiff y Gweinidog adolygu'r broses o benodi aelodau annibynnol o'r bwrdd i Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr gyda'r nod o sefydlu sut y gellir sicrhau mwy o dryloywder wrth symud ymlaen?
