Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken of her delight after visiting a woollen mill in the Conwy Valley.
Trefriw Woollen Mill is run by the brother and sister duo, Morgan and Elaine. Their great grandfather took over the mill in 1859, and the family have now been producing high quality wool products for over 1½ centuries.
Speaking after the visit, Janet said:
“It was a joy to visit the woollen mill and meet the owners, Morgan and Elaine. It was so exciting to see that they are still using Welsh wool after so many years.
“Wool has so many uses, and it was tremendous to see that they have transformed it into amazing products such as throws, cushion covers, bags, purses, and the all-important knitwear that keeps you cool in the summer, and cosy in the winter.
“The sustainability of this site is also exceptional. Not only are they recycling this natural product, but they also have an 80 year old water power turbine generating green electricity for the entire mill.
“I want to thank Morgan and Elaine for this awe inspiring look around this sustainable mill. I encourage everyone to go visit and support this traditional Welsh business.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy, wedi sôn am ei balchder ar ôl ymweld â melin wlân yn Nyffryn Conwy.
Mae Melin Wlân Trefriw yn cael ei rhedeg gan frawd a chwaer, Morgan ac Elaine. Eu hen daid nhw gymerodd gyfrifoldeb am y felin ym 1859, ac mae'r teulu bellach wedi bod yn cynhyrchu cynhyrchion gwlân o ansawdd uchel ers dros ganrif a hanner.
Wrth siarad ar ôl yr ymweliad, dywedodd Janet:
“Roedd hi'n bleser ymweld â'r felin wlân a chyfarfod â'r perchnogion, Morgan ac Elaine. Roedd mor gyffrous gweld eu bod yn dal i ddefnyddio gwlân Cymreig ar ôl cymaint o flynyddoedd.
“Mae gan wlân gymaint o ddefnyddiau, ac roedd yn wych gweld eu bod wedi ei droi yn gynhyrchion anhygoel fel blancedi, gorchuddion clustog, bagiau, pyrsiau, a'r dillad gwlân hollbwysig sy'n eich cadw'n cŵl yn yr haf, ac yn glyd yn y gaeaf.
“Mae cynaliadwyedd y safle hwn yn eithriadol hefyd. Yn ogystal ag ailgylchu'r cynnyrch naturiol hwn, mae ganddynt hefyd dyrbin pŵer dŵr 80 oed sy'n cynhyrchu trydan gwyrdd ar gyfer y felin gyfan.
“Hoffwn ddiolch i Morgan ac Elaine am fy nhywys o gwmpas y felin gynaliadwy hon. Rwy'n annog pawb i ymweld a chefnogi'r busnes Cymreig traddodiadol hwn.”
