Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken out about the current transport crisis in Wales.
Between the 1st of January and 31st of July 2023, 3% of trains in Great Britain were cancelled. However, in Wales, 7% of trains were cancelled.
This has resulted in an inability to rely on public transport for many Welsh residents.
The statistics were collected by ‘On Board Trains’ a website that allows travellers to enquire about delay frequencies for different routes and stations.
Commenting on the transport crisis, Janet said,
“It is unacceptable that Wales has the highest percentage of train cancellations in Great Britain.
“The services that are being provided by Transport for Wales are already nowhere near good enough. Now, combined with high cancellation rates, how can the public rely on trains?
“There are continual issues with trains in Wales; delays, overcrowding, and now this. People are being encouraged to travel via train, however the services provided are extremely poor.
“Transport for Wales are letting their customers down. I urge them to review these cancellation statistics, and cooperate with the Welsh Government to find a solution to prevent further issues.”

Rhwng 1 Ionawr a 31 Gorffennaf 2023, cafodd 3% o drenau ym Mhrydain eu canslo. Fodd bynnag, yng Nghymru, cafodd 7% o drenau eu canslo.
Mae hyn yn golygu nad yw llawer o drigolion Cymru yn gallu dibynnu ar drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus.
Casglwyd yr ystadegau gan ‘On Board Trains' gwefan sy'n caniatáu i deithwyr holi am achosion o oedi ar gyfer gwahanol deithiau a gorsafoedd.
Wrth sôn am yr argyfwng trafnidiaeth, dywedodd Janet,
"Mae'n annerbyniol mai Cymru sydd â'r ganran uchaf o ganslo trenau ym Mhrydain.
"Dyw'r gwasanaethau sy'n cael eu darparu gan Trafnidiaeth Cymru ddim yn agos at ddigon da yn barod. Nawr, law yn llaw â chyfraddau canslo uchel, sut y gall y cyhoedd ddibynnu ar drenau?
"Mae problemau parhaus gyda threnau yng Nghymru; oedi, gorlenwi, a hyn nawr. Mae pobl yn cael eu hannog i deithio ar y trên, ond mae'r gwasanaethau a ddarperir yn wael iawn.
"Mae Trafnidiaeth Cymru yn siomi eu cwsmeriaid. Rwy'n eu hannog i adolygu'r ystadegau canslo hyn, a chydweithio â Llywodraeth Cymru i ddod o hyd i ateb i atal problemau pellach."
