Janet Finch-Saunders MS, who has long campaigned for improved services on the Conwy Valley Railway line, has spoken out in frustration at the Welsh Government refusal to run later train services on the Conwy Valley Railway line.
The last train from Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog is at 19:00. There is no other form of public transport after this.
The last train from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno is at 20:27. There is no other form of public transport after this.
Responding to Mrs Finch-Saunders’ question “Will the Minister explore the option of providing evening train services on the Conwy Valley railway line?”, Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change stated:
“Transport for Wales have recently considered passenger demand across the network, including on the Conwy Valley Line. The final evening service departs from Blaenau Ffestiniog at 20:27 and arrives at Llandudno at 21:44. There are no plans to operate a later service on this line.”
Commenting on the lack of evening services along the Conwy Valley line, Janet said:
“Lee Waters and Transport for Wales are completely out of touch with the public transport need in the Conwy Valley.
“A high number of residents commute to work along the coast, where there are a high number of jobs. However, they are unable to get home by bus or train.
“Local residents are no longer able to travel home after relaxing evenings in destinations such as Llandudno, Conwy, Betws y Coed, and Llanrwst, because there is no public transport.
“Betws y Coed is the gateway to Snowdonia. Over half a million people visit Snowdon every year. Many travel up on a Friday for the weekend, but it is now impossible to get to Betws from major urban areas like London and Cardiff by public transport after work on a Friday night.
“The Welsh Government are running an anti-motorist agenda but in the case of the Conwy Valley, not taking a single measure to make it easier for people to use public transport”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AC, sydd wedi ymgyrchu ers amser maith dros well gwasanaethau ar reilffordd Dyffryn Conwy, wedi siarad mewn rhwystredigaeth ar ôl i Lywodraeth Cymru wrthod cynnal gwasanaethau trên hwyrach ar reilffordd Dyffryn Conwy. Mae'r trên olaf o Landudno i Flaenau Ffestiniog am 19:00. Does dim modd arall o drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus ar ôl hyn. Mae'r trên olaf o Flaenau Ffestiniog i Landudno am 20:27. Does dim modd arall o drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus ar ôl hyn. Wrth ymateb i gwestiwn Mrs Finch-Saunders, "A wnaiff y Gweinidog archwilio'r opsiwn o ddarparu gwasanaethau trên gyda'r nos ar reilffordd Dyffryn Conwy?", dywedodd Lee Waters AS, y Dirprwy Weinidog Newid Hinsawdd: "Yn ddiweddar, fe wnaeth Trafnidiaeth Cymru ystyried y galw gan deithwyr ar draws y rhwydwaith, gan gynnwys y galw ar Reilffordd Dyffryn Conwy. Mae'r gwasanaeth olaf gyda'r nos yn gadael Blaenau Ffestiniog am 20:27 ac yn cyrraedd Llandudno am 21:44. Nid oes unrhyw gynlluniau i weithredu gwasanaeth hwyrach ar y rheilffordd hon." Wrth sôn am y diffyg gwasanaethau gyda'r nos ar hyd rheilffordd Dyffryn Conwy, dywedodd Janet: "Mae Lee Waters a Trafnidiaeth Cymru allan o gysylltiad llwyr ag anghenion trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus yn Nyffryn Conwy. "Mae nifer fawr o breswylwyr yn cymudo i'r gwaith ar hyd yr arfordir, lle mae nifer fawr o swyddi. Fodd bynnag, does dim modd iddynt fynd adref ar fws neu ar drên. "Dydy trigolion lleol bellach ddim yn gallu teithio adref ar ôl nosweithiau hamddenol mewn cyrchfannau fel Llandudno, Conwy, Betws y Coed, a Llanrwst, gan nad oes trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus ar gael. "Betws y Coed yw'r porth i Eryri. Mae dros hanner miliwn o bobl yn ymweld â'r Wyddfa bob blwyddyn. Mae nifer yn teithio i fyny ar ddydd Gwener am y penwythnos, ond mae bellach yn amhosib cyrraedd Betws o ardaloedd trefol mawr fel Llundain a Chaerdydd ar drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus ar ôl gwaith ar nos Wener. "Mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn cynnal agenda gwrth-fodurwyr ond yn achos Dyffryn Conwy, nid yw’n cymryd unrhyw gamau i'w gwneud hi'n haws i bobl ddefnyddio trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus". DIWEDD
