Janet Finch-Saunders MS has spoken of her delight that the Welsh Government has agreed funding of up to £29.4m for a new orthopaedic hub at Llandudno Hospital to help reduce orthopaedic waiting times.
The new hub will transform elective orthopaedic services at Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board and provide benefits for patients, staff and the wider North Wales community, by delivering a planned 1,900 procedures a year.
This major announcement follows the long running campaign by the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy to secure more services and investment in Llandudno Hospital.
This positive development is the latest in a series of measures that have been taken to increase the level of services offered at Llandudno, such as a theatre being re-opened, a transition ward being trialled, a stroke unit being opened, and an Orthopaedic Minor Operations Room opened.
Commenting on the decision to create an orthopaedic hub at Llandudno Hospital, Janet said:
“I have a long running campaign to highlight to the Health Board and Welsh Government that Llandudno Hospital should play a major role in reducing some of the major pressure across the region. I am delighted that I am being listened to.
“There are many people who have been part of this journey of delivering more services in Llandudno Hospital, but I would in particular like to thank Eluned Morgan MS, Minister for Health and Social Services; Carol Shillabeer, Chief Executive; Dyfed Edwards, Chairman; Libby Ryan-Davies, Integrated Health Community Director (Central); and Alan Morris, Interim Assistant Director of Public Affairs and Partnerships. From written correspondence to in person meetings at Llandudno Hospital, they have all cooperated positively me to achieve this fantastic outcome.
“Most importantly, the staff at Llandudno Hospital have always been clear with me that the site has incredible potential, so I am proud to be delivering for them and patients across North Wales.
“Bringing together skills and expertise of staff under one roof will not only reduce waiting lists for orthopaedic patients, but free up space in the main hospitals so other patients, needing other types of treatment or emergency care, can have their waiting times reduced too”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi sôn am ei llawenydd bod Llywodraeth Cymru wedi cytuno ar gyllid o hyd at £29.4m ar gyfer canolfan orthopedig newydd yn Ysbyty Llandudno i helpu i leihau amseroedd aros orthopedig.
Bydd y ganolfan newydd yn trawsnewid gwasanaethau orthopedig dewisol ym Mwrdd Iechyd Betsi Cadwaladr ac yn sicrhau buddion i gleifion, staff a chymuned ehangach Gogledd Cymru, drwy ddarparu 1,900 o driniaethau wedi’u cynllunio y flwyddyn.
Daw'r cyhoeddiad pwysig hwn yn dilyn ymgyrch hirdymor yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy i sicrhau mwy o wasanaethau a buddsoddiad yn Ysbyty Llandudno.
Y datblygiad cadarnhaol hwn yw'r diweddaraf mewn cyfres o fesurau a gymerwyd i gynyddu lefel y gwasanaethau a gynigir yn Llandudno, megis ailagor theatr, treialu ward bontio, agor uned strôc, ac agor Ystafell Mân-lawdriniaethau Orthopedig.
Wrth sôn am y penderfyniad i greu canolfan orthopedig yn Ysbyty Llandudno, dywedodd Janet:
"Rydw i wedi bod yn cynnal ymgyrch hir i dynnu sylw’r Bwrdd Iechyd a Llywodraeth Cymru at y ffaith y dylai Ysbyty Llandudno chwarae rhan fawr yn yr ymdrech i leihau rhywfaint o'r pwysau mawr ar draws y rhanbarth. Rwy'n falch iawn fod rhywun wedi gwrando arna’i.
"Mae llawer o bobl wedi bod yn rhan o'r daith hon i ddarparu rhagor o wasanaethau yn Ysbyty Llandudno, ond hoffwn ddiolch yn arbennig i Eluned Morgan AS, y Gweinidog Iechyd a Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol; Carol Shillabeer, y Prif Weithredwr; Dyfed Edwards, Cadeirydd; Libby Ryan-Davies, Cyfarwyddwr Cymunedol Iechyd Integredig (Canolog); ac Alan Morris, Cyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol dros dro Materion Cyhoeddus a Phartneriaethau. O ohebiaeth ysgrifenedig i gyfarfodydd personol yn Ysbyty Llandudno, maen nhw i gyd wedi cydweithio'n gadarnhaol â mi i gyflawni'r canlyniad gwych hwn.
"Ond yn bwysicaf oll, mae'r staff yn Ysbyty Llandudno wastad wedi bod yn glir gyda mi fod gan y safle botensial anhygoel, felly rwy'n falch o fedru cyflawni ar eu cyfer nhw a chleifion ledled y Gogledd.
"Bydd dwyn ynghyd sgiliau ac arbenigedd staff o dan yr un to nid yn unig yn lleihau rhestrau aros ar gyfer cleifion orthopedig, ond bydd hefyd yn rhyddhau lle yn y prif ysbytai fel y gall cleifion eraill, sydd angen mathau eraill o driniaeth neu ofal brys, leihau eu hamseroedd aros hefyd".
