Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is saddened to learn that on Sunday evening a number of goats have died after a herd of the animals was hit on the A470.
The incident happened on the A470 at Wormhout Way on Sunday evening with Police and council highways teams called to the scene. It is understood three or four goats were killed and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
This is indicative of a broader issue where the animals are not peacefully coexisting with the residents of Llandudno. This incident, alongside previous occurrences has raised some serious concerns about the welfare of motorists and the goats themselves.
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“It is extremely sad that some of our beloved goats have now been killed on the roads. I am extremely grateful to North Wales Police and the Council highways team for attending and investigating, and I have asked them to keep me apprised of the outcome.
“This speaks to the wider issue of co-existing and how difficult it is to have them freely roaming the streets and highways. Clearly this is not sustainable, lest we find ourselves dealing with another fatal accident.
“This is why I have written to Conwy County Borough Council, Llandudno Town Council, Mostyn Estates Ltd, Natural Resources Wales , RSPCA (National & Aberconwy Branch), the National Trust and North Wales Police, to inform them that I will be writing to the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs to seek solution that is sustainable and manageable for all parties.
“I know that this is a very contentious issue however, it is my duty as the member for Aberconwy to ensure that constituents and visitors are safe and that the goats can peacefully live in Llandudno. I will continue to search for a solution here as this is not an issue we can turn a blind eye to.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy, wedi’i thristáu gan y newyddion fod nifer o eifr wedi marw nos Sul ar ôl i ddiadell o’r anifeiliaid gael ei tharo gan gerbyd ar yr A470.
Digwyddodd y ddamwain ar yr A470 ar Wormhout Way nos Sul, a galwyd yr heddlu a thimau priffyrdd y cyngor i’r lleoliad. Deellir bod tair neu bedair gafr wedi eu lladd ac mae ymholiadau i’r digwyddiad yn parhau.
Mae hyn yn tanlinellu problem ehangach, sef nad oes modd i’r anifeiliaid gyd-fodoli’n heddychlon â thrigolion Llandudno. Mae’r digwyddiad hwn, ynghyd â digwyddiadau blaenorol, wedi codi pryderon difrifol am les modurwyr a’r geifr eu hunain.
Wrth gynnig sylwadau ar y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae’n drist iawn bod rhai o’n geifr annwyl wedi cael eu lladd ar y ffyrdd. Rwy’n hynod ddiolchgar i Heddlu Gogledd Cymru a thîm priffyrdd y Cyngor am fynd yno ac ymchwilio, ac rwyf wedi gofyn iddyn nhw roi gwybod i mi am unrhyw ddatblygiadau.
“Mae hyn yn tanlinellu problem ehangach cyd-fodoli a pha mor anodd yw gadael i’r creaduriaid grwydro’n rhydd ar strydoedd a phriffyrdd. Yn amlwg, nid yw’r sefyllfa’n un a all barhau, rhag i ni orfod delio â damwain angheuol arall.
“Dyma pam rwyf wedi ysgrifennu at Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy, Cyngor Tref Llandudno, Mostyn Estates Ltd, Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru, RSPCA (yn genedlaethol, a changen Aberconwy), yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol a Heddlu Gogledd Cymru, i’w hysbysu y byddaf yn ysgrifennu at Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Newid Hinsawdd a Materion Gwledig i ofyn am ateb sy’n dderbyniol ac sy’n gweithio i bob ochr.
“Rwy’n gwybod bod hwn yn fater dadleuol iawn, ond mae’n ddyletswydd arnaf fel yr Aelod dros Aberconwy i sicrhau bod etholwyr ac ymwelwyr yn ddiogel a bod y geifr yn gallu byw yn heddychlon yn Llandudno. Byddaf yn parhau i chwilio am ateb gan nad yw hwn yn fater y gallwn ei anwybyddu.”
