Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy would like to offer her deepfelt thanks to Network Rail who worked tirelessly to restore the Conwy Valley Railway Line to service.
Following storm Kathleen last week a section of the line was closed on Tuesday afternoon (9 April) when river flooding washed away ballast (the stones that support the track) near Dolgarrog station.
Network Rail engineers worked around the clock so the railway could reopen safely, installing more than 200 tonnes of new ballast. The work was completed by Friday night, with the line successfully tested on Saturday morning to allow Transport for Wales to resume services between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“I would like to thank Network Rail for their swift action regarding the restoration of the Conwy Valley Railway Line. Workers worked through the night in challenging conditions and I know that everyone who relies on the railway will be extremely grateful for this.
“The line has always been susceptible to the risks of flooding and stormy weather. Indeed, in 2019 the line was closed for four months as Network Rail undertook extensive repairs, covering six miles of track, two stations, and eight level crossings.
“We are very fortunate to have such skilled and dedicated engineers working for National Rail and we can always count on them to assist us as a community during challenging times.”
ENDS
Hoffai Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy ddiolch yn fawr iawn i Network Rail a weithiodd yn ddiflino i adfer Rheilffordd Dyffryn Conwy i wasanaethu.
Yn dilyn storm Kathleen yr wythnos diwethaf cafodd rhan o'r lein ei chau brynhawn Mawrth (9 Ebrill) pan olchodd llifogydd afonydd falast i ffwrdd (y cerrig sy'n cynnal y trac) ger gorsaf Dolgarrog.
Gweithiodd peirianwyr Network Rail rownd y cloc fel y gallai'r rheilffordd ailagor yn ddiogel, gan osod mwy na 200 tunnell o falast newydd. Cafodd y gwaith ei gwblhau erbyn nos Wener, gyda'r llinell yn cael ei phrofi'n llwyddiannus fore Sadwrn i ganiatáu i Drafnidiaeth Cymru ailddechrau gwasanaethau rhwng Cyffordd Llandudno a Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Wrth sôn am y newyddion dywedodd Janet:
"Hoffwn ddiolch i Network Rail am eu camau cyflym i adfer Rheilffordd Dyffryn Conwy. Gweithiodd gweithwyr drwy'r nos mewn amodau heriol a gwn y bydd pawb sy'n dibynnu ar y rheilffordd yn hynod ddiolchgar am hyn.
"Mae'r llinell wastad wedi bod yn agored i beryglon llifogydd a thywydd stormus. Yn wir, yn 2019 caewyd y lein am bedwar mis wrth i Network Rail wneud gwaith atgyweirio helaeth, ar chwe milltir o drac, dwy orsaf, ac wyth croesfan rheilffordd.
"Rydym yn ffodus iawn o gael peirianwyr medrus ac ymroddedig o'r fath yn gweithio i National Rail a gallwn bob amser ddibynnu arnynt i'n cynorthwyo fel cymuned yn ystod cyfnod heriol."
