Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS, Shadow Minister for Climate Change, recently visited the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University to witness the ground breaking research on deadly viruses and marine biology.
Wales was influential globally with Covid-19 research. In particular, the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University were pioneers for monitoring, and remains a central hub for global testing equipment. Furthermore, the group has a plethora of initiatives taking place such as the Native Oyster Aquaculture Research (NOAR) Project.
Commenting after the visit, Janet said:
“It is incredible to see the various ongoing projects that the School of Ocean Sciences are engaging in, and learn that the team were at the forefront of research and development during the Covid outbreak.
“Their ongoing Native Oyster Aquaculture Research (NOAR) Project is fascinating. It encompasses the vast history of Wales, the modern risks of over fishing and proposes innovative habitat restoration solutions to rejuvenate the country’s fishing operations, and bolster biodiversity.
“We must take pride in the outsized impact that Bangor University play on the international stage, and embrace its expertise so to tackle the nature and climate crisis in Wales.”
