Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, welcomes the £8 million equity stake in the Morlais tidal energy scheme—a major step for what could be Europe’s largest consented tidal project. Set to be operational by 2026, the Menter Môn-led initiative off Ynys Môn could power up to 180,000 Welsh homes, offering a cost-efficient “plug and play” model for tidal developers.
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“This is absolutely excellent news. I have visted the site only recently and it was absolutely fascinating. This investment will support the Cydnerth phase of the project, strengthening the grid connection at Parc Cybi, Holyhead, and helping to position Wales at the forefront of the global renewable energy transition.
“With construction set to begin soon, the Morlais project stands as a beacon of Wales’s commitment to renewable energy, securing a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
“I know Andy Billcliff, the CEO of the Morlais Project, and he will be extremely pleased with this news. This investment will create skilled jobs and dramatically increase economic prosperity in the region and I look forward to what the future holds for this exciting project.”
