In a letter to North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin, Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has voiced serious concerns over the PCC’s actions following a recent public meeting on anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Llandudno.
The meeting, held at The Grand Hotel, provided an opportunity for residents, local officials, and law enforcement to discuss the incidents of youth-related ASB in the area. During the meeting, North Wales Police confirmed that there had been 389 youth-related ASB incidents in Llandudno over the past year.
However, following the event, North Wales Police issued a formal statement contesting the figure, despite the Assistant Chief Constable later confirming its accuracy in a direct conversation with Janet Finch-Saunders.
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“I am exceptionally disappointed in Andy Dunbobbin, North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, for failing to maintain political neutrality and failing to scrutinise police statements.
“Rather than holding the force accountable, as is his duty, he has publicly aligned himself with incorrect claims, undermining public confidence in his ability to fulfil his role impartially.
“Mr. Dunbobbin echoed suggestions last week that by raising concerns about ASB I could harm Llandudno’s reputation and deter visitors. I find this stance deeply inappropriate.
“Public safety must always come first. Downplaying genuine concerns in favour of protecting an image is both irresponsible and in my opinion a complete dereliction of duty. My residents and business owners in Llandudno deserve better.
"As a proud and long-standing member of the Llandudno community, a former mayor, and the daughter of two distinguished past mayors who served the town with distinction and passion, I make no apologies for my commitment to tackling ASB and criminal activity in our beautiful town.
“Rather than being deterred by North Wales Police and the PCC, their actions have made me even more determined to push for increased police presence in the constituency of Aberconwy.”
