Janet Finch-Saunders MS calls on the Welsh Government to explore possibilities for regular cruise and ferry services to call at Llandudno.
The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy encouraged Conwy County Borough Council, the Welsh Government and commercial operators to come together to explore various options.
It comes amid news that Wales will welcome the highest number of cruise ship calls to date this year, with 91 ships expected to call at Welsh ports.
The cruise calls will include more than 80,000 passengers and 39,000 crew, which equates to a potential passenger day spend income of £8.3 million for the Welsh economy.
Commenting today on the news, Janet said:
“I am delighted by the news that cruise ship businesses will continue to thrive, bringing jobs and growth to communities across Wales.
“The first calls of the 2023 season will be on 6 April, when the Hurtigruten Spitzbergen sails into Fishguard, while the Viking Venus sails into Holyhead.
“For the first time this year, Holyhead will welcome the prestigious MS Queen Victoria in June, which is the 3,000-passenger ship’s first call at the port since the new ownership by Stenaline of the deep water berth in Holyhead.
“To build on this success, what better opportunity could there be than to make Llandudno a key part of this exciting expansion?
“The Liverpool-to-Llandudno and Douglas-to-Llandudno ferries were once a very popular mainstay, and efforts have already been made to revive them.
“I very much hope that Conwy County Borough Council get around the table to see what can be done to explore this and various other opportunities, in order to truly advance our local offering”.
